Donate used laptops to rescue Filipino children

Providing shelter and restoring hope

Now, several months later some people are still without shelter, schools flattened to rubble and communities struggling to survive. But there is hope!

Hope has come from 'Byond' - the Cornish disaster relief charity who have been doing amazing work in the Philippines.  When we saw what they had done we wanted to support Byond and knew we could help.

Byond are changing lives, creating shelter, giving support,   building schools and restoring hope and prospects to communities and the young generation. They have already helped several thousand children return to full time education. Through their ‘Raise the Roof’ project, ‘Byond’  are fundraising to repair and replace roofs, build schools and provide teaching materials too.

How can my old, used laptops rescue the children in the Philippines?

We are searching for companies/individuals to donate old laptops and computing equipment such as keyboards and mice, so that we can deliver and install these in the new school classrooms since all previous equipment had been damaged.  (Laptops should ideally have at least 12 months use remaining and will be securely wiped and re-conditioned before shipping abroad).

Children need these resources to learn basic ICT skills such as typing on a keyboard and controlling a mouse to even writing letters on a PC. Skills that we probably take for granted, as our own children bamboozle us with their Minecraft creations, Powerpoint show-and-tell presentations and digital prowess.  For the children in the Philippines, learning even basic ICT skills is not just necessary but vital to empower them and help secure jobs later on, enabling further education, and creating brighter futures.  However, without the necessary IT equipment they cannot learn these vital skills.

One simple PC donation can create a wealth of opportunities for a child and family in the Philippines!

Our Education Director, Andy Trish will be heading out to the Philippines again soon.  We're hoping that we can send much more IT equipment with him so the schools and children can benefit straightaway.
